There are five factions in the game as of the final demo version:

* Freelancers

* Revolution

* Insurrection

* Cultists

* Military

You will always start as having very negative(Distrusted or lower) relations with the Insurrection, Cultists, and the Miltary, with a varying level of relations with the Freelancers and the Revolution that is always Stranger or higher(-99 and above). To gain faction relations, you must complete missions given by faction NPCs| or aid members of the faction in combat. You lose relations when you kill a member of a faction.
