This page is a work in progress.
Ranged weapons in Project Silverfish have access to a number of ammo types that can be switched to depending on the situation. To do so, hold the reload button (R by default), and select the ammo type you want to use by clicking on it.
The following tables show which ammunition is available in Project Silverfish. You can use the table of contents to jump to a category.
9mm
Used in Light Pistols, SMGs and PDWs.
9×19mm might not have the punch of heavier cartridges, but it makes up for it by being common, lighter, and cheaper.

12 Gauge
Used in various Shotguns.
12 gauge is the only shotgun caliber currently available in the game. It is devastating at close range, and can even stay effective up to medium range, but any more and it very quickly lose its effectiveness. It is also one of the heaviest ammo types.
Out of all the ranged munition types, 12 gauge has the most variants, with a total of five.

5.6 Intermediate
Used in Carbines and Light Rifles.
5.6mm (the game's equivalent to 5.56×45mm) is a versatile rifle round. While it lacks the punch and penetration of its heavier .30-06 cousin, it is much more common, lightweight, and cheaper.

.50 Cal
Used in Heavy Snipers and Anti-Materiel Weapons.
.50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun), also known as 12.7×99mm NATO, is the dedicated anti-materiel cartridge in the game. It deals the most damage out of all bullet-type cartridges and has the highest natural penetration, but it is also very expensive and heavy.
As of demo version 0.14.9, no NPCs aside from the Insurrection sniper spawn with .50 BMG weapons, making shops, traders, and loot containers (with the "replenish loot" difficulty option enabled) being the only renewable ways to acquire more ammo of this type.
